Subject: Urgent: autonomous vehicle deployment and the impact on licensed PHV drivers in your constituency
Dear [MP name],

I am writing to you as one of your constituents and as a licensed private hire vehicle driver in London.

I am concerned about the planned commercial launch of autonomous vehicle taxis in London, targeted for September 2026, and the absence of any formal displacement impact assessment ahead of that launch.

Evidence from comparable deployments in San Francisco shows measurable declines in trip volumes and earnings for licensed human drivers following AV commercial rollout. London has 110,000 licensed PHV drivers. Many of us support families and hold mortgages on the basis of this income.

I am asking you to:

1. Write to the Secretary of State for Transport requesting a formal displacement impact assessment before any autonomous vehicle operator licence is granted in London.
2. Raise the regulatory asymmetry between AV operators and licensed human drivers with Transport for London.
3. Support the active Parliament petition (751258) calling for government action on this issue.

I would welcome your response and would be grateful to know what steps you are able to take.

Yours sincerely,
